TTT: Favorite Book Quotes

Top Ten Tuesdays are a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. As always this list is in no particular order.

This is the part where I panic, and frantically look at books to remember things.

A lot of these will probably be from one book, because the commentary is FIRE!

ENJOY! ~

Best Dad (˵¯͒ 〰¯͒˵)

“So, I know what the ladies like,” Dad said. “I used to be a bad boy myself.”

Kami raised her eyebrows. “Oh, you were?”

“I won’t go into it, because I know you honor and respect me as your parent, and I don’t want to spoil your illusions,” said Dad. “Also I don’t want to give you any ideas. Let’s just say there were fires.”

“Dad! You set fires?”

“Fires happened,” said Dad.

Distracting receptionists are a piece of cake, right?

Holly was laughing. “Jared told her he used to be an exotic dancer in San Francisco.”

“My body is a gift from God,” Jared said gravely. “Except for my hips, which are clearly a gift from the devil.”

“I’m surprised she didn’t call the police,” Ash muttered. “I would have.”

Angela looked traumatized…

“Juliet is a jerk!”

She bent down, rummaging in the wild tangle of garden around her feet, and chose a pebble. A large pebble. Kami wound her arm back, took careful aim, and threw.

The “pebble” crashed through both glass and curtain.

There was a creak of an old sash window being thrust open, and Jared’s head and shoulders appeared at the window. “Hark,” he said, his tone very dry. “What stone through yonder window breaks?”

Kami yelled up at him, “It is the east, and Juliet is a jerk!”

MORE FROM DAD! (˵¯͒ 〰¯͒˵)

“Camilla, Henry, Thomas, you greedy monsters,” Dad said. “Not a crumb left for your father? That’s it, you’re not my children. You’re sad, bald monkeys I won from circus folk in a poker game.”

Big Mood

(Rusty and Angela are siblings by the way, if it helps. Kami just came over to their house.)

“Oh, Rusty, why did you let her in?” Angela said. “We could have just lain down on the floor until she went away. We could’ve had a nice floor nap.”

“Have you guys eaten?” Kami asked. “I’m starving.”

“Cooking is so much trouble,” Rusty said mournfully.

“You could order in,” Kami suggested.

“Delivery people are so annoying,” Angela responded.

Rusty is an Icon

“Rusty, Dad needs to work and I’m going out, so you’re babysitting.”

“I like that word,” Rusty said, settling down for a nap. “Come babies. Let us sit together.”

Tomo sat down in the vacated space by Rusty’s head and began pulling his hair.

“Never Trust a Duck”

“I like ducks.” Jem observed diplomatically. “Especially the ones in Hyde Park.” He glanced side ways at Will; both boys were sitting at the edge of a high table, their legs dangling over the side. “Remember when you tried to convince me to feed poultry pie the the mallards in the park to see if you could breed a race of cannibal ducks?”

“They ate it too, “Will reminisced. “Blood thirsty little beasts. Never trust a duck.”

—Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Angel

#8

Have You Seen My Unicorn?

“Have you, uh…” Holly pushed her hands back through her hair. “Have you seen a unicorn in the woods?”

“I imagine that’s next,” Jared muttered.

“Right,” said Holly. “Well. If the unicorn is pink, about two feet tall, with a sparkly mane, we’ll know my imaginary friend is real too.”

The Magical Abilities of Duck Tape

“Yes, of course duct tape works in a near-vacuum. Duct tape works anywhere. Duct tape is magic and should be worshiped.”

#10

Aquaman Logic

“He’s stuck out there. He thinks he’s totally alone and that we all gave up on him. What kind of effect does that have on a man’s psychology?” He turned back to Venkat. “I wonder what he’s thinking right now.”

LOG ENTRY: SOL 61 How come Aquaman can control whales? They’re mammals! Makes no sense.”

    1. It’s about Kami Glass who lives in Sorry-in-the-Vale. One of the oldest families that “founded” the Vale came back and strange events keep occurring. It’s kinda like a supernatural mystery in a sense. They’re trying to find out who’s responsible. And yes!!! I loved those Martian quotes! XD It was hard to choose just one. And the duck quote is legendary!

    2. I feel like the synopsis on the back makes it more romance-y then it kind of is. I’m 200+/300+ pages in, and there’s character arcs centering Kami/Jared, but it’s still character development between these two. And the rest is the normal plot. If you want more mystery, it has a good amount. If you want relationship development, it’s more entertaining than anything else right now because of the dialogue. So yeah, I don’t know if that spoiled anything, I hope it didn’t, I just wanted to draw a good picture of it for you. 🙂

      1. Oh, that sounds very interesting! I’ll have to add it to my TBR…
And that’s good that it has a good balance of both. I feel as though synopses often play up the romance aspect more, because they think we teenagers are all love obsessed or something. But it still sounds like something I should check out. And no, you didn’t spoil anything, so you’re all good.

      2. Yay! And after I told you about it, I went out and finished the whole book. XD I understand too, sometimes the synopsis doesn’t quite give the best idea or the book, especially in YA. But I enjoyed it, it’s a lot like Cassie Clare’s books in a way. 🙂 Since you like her books, you’ll probably be into this series.
